Phase transition and crossover behavior of colloidal fluids under confinement

چکیده
We report a molecular simulation study on the non-monotonic behavior of critical temperature, Tcp, of a confined Yukawa fluid. Close to the adhesive hard sphere (AHS) range of the surface–fluid interaction, Tcp monotonically increases with increasing surface–fluid interaction range. Subsequently, after a certain threshold value, depending on the surface interaction well depth, Tcp decreases monotonically with further increase in the surface interaction range. On the other hand, critical density and pressure show increasing monotonic trends with the surface interaction range. The crossover from 3D to 2D behavior for colloidal fluid in attractive pores is observed around a slit width of 14 molecular diameters for the studied system in this work. 2010 Elsevier B.V. Phase behaviour of colloidal assemblies on 2D corrugated substrates.
We investigate--using Monte Carlo computer simulations--the phase behaviour of dimeric colloidal molecules on periodic substrates with square symmetry. The molecules are formed in a two-dimensional suspension of like charged colloids subject to periodic external confinement, which can be experimentally realized by optical methods. We study the evolution of positional and orientational order by ...
متن کاملTransition from two-dimensional to three-dimensional behavior in the self-assembly of magnetorheological fluids confined in thin slits.
We study the effects of extreme confinement on the self assembly of the colloids found in magnetorheological (MR) fluids using Brownian dynamics simulations. The MR fluid is confined in a thin slit with a uniform external magnetic field directed normal to the slit. We find a crossover in the behavior of the system from two dimensions to three dimensions as the slit thickness is increased. A sim...
متن کاملConfinement-induced solidification of colloid-polymer depletion mixtures.
Using a model colloid-polymer suspension, we show that confinement induces solidification in attractive colloidal suspensions via a fundamentally different route from that active in hard sphere colloidal suspensions. For a range of polymer concentrations, the suspensions undergo a phase transition from a colloidal fluid of clusters to a colloidal gel as confinement increases while polymer and p...
متن کاملPhase transitions in nanoconfined binary mixtures of highly oriented colloidal rods.
We analyse a binary mixture of colloidal parallel hard cylindrical particles with identical diameters but dissimilar lengths L(1) and L(2), with s = L(2)/L(1) = 3, confined by two parallel hard walls in a planar slit-pore geometry, using a fundamental-measure density functional theory. This model presents nematic (N) and two types of smectic (S) phases, with first- and second-order N-S bulk tra...
متن کاملEffect of colloidal Particles associated with the liquid bridge in sticking during drying in Superheated Steam
It is very important in the design of a drying system is to evaluate sticking behaviour of the materials goes under drying. A new approach to the sticking issue is applied in this study by carrying out a sticking test for the liquid associated with the materials under study. It was found that the liquid bridge is responsible of the initial sticking of the materials to the contact surface and th...
